When it comes to math, most people either love it or hate it. But no matter how you feel about it, it might interest you to know that mathematics actually confirms the truth of God’s Word! Think about it—how could random, chance, materialistic processes over millions of years produce immaterial, precise (absolute) mathematical laws? They can’t!
There’s one specific mathematical formula that one of our staff members, retired US Marine Patrick Kanewske, loves to highlight because it magnificently declares the Creator’s glory: the golden ratio, which is related to the Fibonacci sequence.
What is this golden ratio? We describe it on the Creation Museum website this way.
In mathematics, two quantities are in the golden ratio if their ratio is the same as the ratio of their sum to the larger of the two quantities. The Greek letter phi (φ) represents the golden ratio, an irrational number with a value of 1.618.
Mathematicians since Euclid have studied the properties of the golden ratio, including its appearance in the dimensions of a regular pentagon and in a golden rectangle, which may be cut into a square and a smaller rectangle with the same aspect ratio. The golden ratio has also been used to analyze the proportions of natural objects as well as man-made systems such as financial markets. The golden ratio appears in geometry, art, architecture, and some patterns in nature, including the spiral arrangement of leaves and other plant parts. Some artists and architects, including Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci, have proportioned their works to approximate the golden ratio, believing this proportion to be aesthetically pleasing.
Patrick often presents a program called The Golden Ratio as one of our free Creation Museum Discover programs, and it was recently filmed and posted to our Answers in Genesis YouTube channel. I encourage you to watch it and see how this formula glorifies its Creator.
We have a wide variety of wonderful programs, like this one, happening daily at the Creation Museum and Ark Encounter (and they’re included with your admission!). Many families purchase our Ultimate Bouncer Pass so they can visit both attractions all year and take advantage of all the different programs (in addition to the exhibits, concerts, daily presentations, playgrounds, gardens, zoos, live animal programs, and more!).
Be sure to plan your visit soon and check our daily schedule to see which programs are happening during your visit.
Thanks for stopping by and thanks for praying,
Ken
